I am very excited to announce that I am starting a new collaboration with Mainteater in Indonesia this December. We will be holding a workshop to work with my new text 'Hades Fading' a work based on Greek mythological characters which questions belief in a post apocalyptic world, with performers and artists from Australia and Indonesia. But first, one very important step will take place. The script of Hades Fading, will be translated from English into Indonesian by Dr Safrina Noorman, Head of the English department of the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (University of Education Indonesia). It is very rare for Australian new writing to be translated into Bahasa Indonesian so this is super exciting.
Safrina and I worked together in 2012 and 2015 when Dr Safrina translated the work of Godi Suwarna 'Urat Jagat (Veins of the Universe)' from Sundanese into English, which I then directed in a performance which had 3 stages in Indonesia and in Melbourne.
We are starting the translation part of this work soon with Skype sessions. When we meet in Bandung in December we will present a workshop on translation to students in Safrina's department.
We have received funding so far for this project from Creative Victoria, and are still raising money and will keep you updated.
We aim for the original text and it's translation to be published.
The work features Victorian artists Emily Barrie, Nicholas Verso and Indonesian artists Heliana Sinaga, Deden Bulqini and Wawan Sofwan and will tour Indonesia in 2019 in collaboration with La Mama Theatre
