The collaboration started in late August, 3 artists in Melbourne and 3 artists in Jeonju, South Korea, creating ideas for new immersive works for the festival of Art Play at the Palbok Art Factory. The festival finally happened last weekend, with the Korean artists implementing the ideas and the Melbourne artists watching wistfully from afar. To start with we worked all together with several PD sessions, then we were paired up. Yu Rim, who was chosen to be my partner wanted to work with plants, which was perfect for me, as I have also been creating designs and lanterns with plants and leaves for the past 2 years, and have been wanting to expand this more into installation. Our idea ended up being to create a mural and photo backdrop with the children, inspired by the plants of the Palbok Art Factory surrounds, and for the kids to make leafy head dresses which they could photograph themselves in, in front of the backdrop. I sent a package of leaf studies to Yu Rim which she incorporated into the mural, and also some head dresses examples for the kids to get ideas from.
